Qld: Floods cut rail and roads
BRISBANE, Feb 19 AAP - Rail services to and from north Queensland were cancelled today
due to severe flooding in the region.
Queensland Rail said the northbound Sunlander passenger service from Brisbane to Cairns
and the southbound service out of Cairns had both been cancelled due to submerged train
lines near Townsville.
Alternative transport arrangements were being made.
Heavy rainfall has cut a number of major western and north Queensland roads.
RACQ reported this morning the following roads were closed to traffic: Woodstock to
Giru; Landsborough Highway, 40km west of Winton; Winton to Kynunah, Jundah and Boulia;
Dawson Developmental Road from Tambo to Springsure; Hughenden to Winton and Muttaburra;
Cape Tribulation to Cooktown; Bedourie to Boulia.
The far north Burke Developmental Road has been closed indefinitely for the wet season
and the Barclay Highway is open to four-wheel-drive and heavy vehicles only, but is closed
at the Johnstone River.
