NSW: Case of man suing SRA adjourned

SYDNEY, Aug 1 AAP - The case of a man who is suing the NSW State Rail Authority (SRA)
after losing two limbs when he was hit by a train was adjourned in the NSW Supreme Court
today.

Jason Scott Prouse lost his left arm and left leg when he was hit by a train after
leaving a stationary rail carriage to cross tracks near a station platform.

The accident happened after Mr Prouse, who was 23 at the time, boarded a train at Wyong
on the NSW Central Coast with friends on the night of November 15, 1991.

The court was told last week that the train stopped 500 metres from the Newcastle station
platform at a signal to allow another train to leave.

The automatic doors of Mr Prouse's train opened and he and several other male passengers
jumped out to cross the tracks and get through the fence.

He was hit by another train and dragged down the tracks.

SRA counsel Colin Mr O'Connor said today the defence was still "not in a position to
proceed" due to a "wealth of new material" that had been presented to the legal team.

Justice John Dowd adjourned the hearing to a date to be set.
