Qld: Cyclone threat eases
Cyclone Claudia peaked overnight before being downgraded as it continued to move awayfrom the Queensland coast.
The Bureau of Meteorology says Claudia, now category two, is sitting between New Zealandand New Caledonia.
Forecaster say the cyclone is moving quite quickly at about 40 kmh, but is probablytoo far from land to become troublesome.
Forecasters will continue to keep a careful watch on a low pressure system near theGulf of Carpentaria, more than 300 km southwest of Nhulunbuy on the tip of the Gove Peninsula.
The low is moving at about 15 kmh, and forecasters say it could develop into tropicalcyclone if it moves over the warm seawater in the gulf.
