HERNDON MAN WINS $1 MILLION IN VIRGINIA'S NEW YEAR'S MILLIONAIRE RAFFLE

RICHMOND, Va., Jan. 13 -- The Virginia Lottery issued the following news release:

Florante Jimeno of Herndon bought his ticket for Virginia's New Year's Millionaire Raffle more than a month before the drawing. For him, it was worth the wait. On New Year's Day he won the top prize of $1 million!

"I saw the winning numbers on the Internet and I woke up my wife," he told Virginia Lottery officials. "We were jumping around."

He bought the ticket at the 7-Eleven at 23131 Rock Hill Road in Sterling. On January 13, he returned to the store to receive his check from Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula Otto. The store received a $10,000 bonus for selling the top-prize-winning ticket.

Mr. Jimeno's ticket, #319116, is one of three $1 million winners in Virginia's New Year's Millionaire Raffle. The other two were bought in Daleville and Alexandria. Six tickets each won $25,000. Those tickets were bought in Williamsburg, Suffolk, Vinton, Waynesboro, Abingdon and Powhatan. An additional 300 tickets each won $500.

Mr. Jimeno said he intends to use his winnings to pay bills and take care of his family.

The $1 million ticket purchased in Alexandria remains unclaimed.

The Virginia Lottery generates approximately $1.2 million per day for Virginia's K-12 public schools. Operating entirely on revenue from the sale of Lottery products, rather than tax dollars, the Virginia Lottery raised more than $430.2 million for Virginia's public schools in fiscal year 2010. That represents about 8 percent of state funding for public education in Virginia. Follow the Virginia Lottery on Facebook and Twitter. Please play responsibly.
